Thank God for....

I'm Thanking God this Valentine's Day...

1. For all of my ex- boyfriends. They showed me what I wanted and more so what I didn't want in a man.
2. For the Valentine's Days I've spent with my girlfriends- They helped me realize that it just wasn't the right time for me but when it was right, it would feel perfect. (What's perfect for ME, that is)
3. For my husband. He shows me everyday how much I mean to him and no one campares to how special he makes me feel!

Happy Valentine's to You All!

Charming One Spot Valentine's

As I'm surfing around this very bloggy world
we call the internet,

I have came across multitudes of little crafts
I want to add to my already very long list...
This one poked out at me being that
Valentine's is right around the corner...
 Literallly!
It comes from a new favorite of mine,
Such Pretty Things by Jessica Enig.
Take the weekend to work up your magic on the
cutest little Valentine-y Heart Boxes you've ever seen!

As told by Jessica: I found these cute little plastic heart boxes in the Dollar Spot bins at Target this week.  A package of eight of them for only a dollar!  You can't beat that! I immediately decided that they would make the perfect little Valentine's day favor boxes for the girls and their friends.  They just needed a little embellishment! If you want to make some, here's what you'll need:

♥Heart-shaped favor boxes
♥White craft glue and foam brush
♥Glitter (the more sparkly, the better)
♥Ribbon
♥Paper flower embellishments
♥Double-sided tape
♥Candy

Happy Crafting!

Easy Peasy Baby Leg Warmers

As promised, today I am showing you how to make baby leg warmers.
You will need a  a pair of scissors, a ruler to help you cut straight lines, a sewing machine or needle and thread if you sew by hand and a pair of knee high socks. I use adult socks because I prefer them to be longer.

Cut socks into four pieces. Try and keep the lines as straight as possible with a ruler.
You can throw away the heel and toe. Keep the section that is in between the two because that will be your cuff for the leg warmers.
Next step, Take the section that will be your cuff and flip one side of it in. One side will look like a cuff and the other side will look like 4 raw cute edges. Make sure that the cuff is not inside out... you should see the print on the exterior.

You are then going  to put the leg itself INSIDE the cuff, with the rounded edged facing the top of the sock. You sh ould then have 6 raw cut edged on the bottom like in the picture below.

Set your sewing machine dial to a zig zag stitch (This allows for the cuff to stretch and go back to it's original shape. When you sew the cuff to the legging part, their should be 3 edges you are sewing together. Because of the knit material, the edges tend to roll so make sure you do not miss any edges. Take your time and sew all the way around the cuff.

Check your stitch and trim the extra being very careful not to cut your stitch

And your done! These would be so cute on newborns all the way up to big girls. They are great if your little one likes to run around in nothing but a onsie or to put under a cute little dress or skirt. They can wear them up to their knees or pulled all the way up to their chubby thighs like shown in my pictures below.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment and if you make these, send me a pic! I'd love to see them on your little one!

Nothing like Pearls and Tulle

Today, the hubs and I had to wake up bright and early to take Skyla (my daughter) to go get her pictures taken. I made her a new TuTu skirt just to wear for the special occasion and had everything laid out for her to wear. 10 minutes before we walk out the door, I realized hmmm... her shirt could use a little touch up with an iron. Well, that didn't work so well. Have you ever tried to use your iron and pressed the steam button when it is not quite hot enough? YEP! That was me, and it spewed a burnt looking water all over her brand new shirt that matched perfectly to her new outfit! Well, of course I went on a mad rampage to find a shirt that matches just as well and what did I come up with? A plain white onsie... wow... that was special. Anyhow, the point to my story is that even when you feel like you are so prepared and you feel as though nothing could go, the pipes break... LOL.

None the less, the pictures turned out great and here are a few that she took. I made everything on her except the shirt and necklaces and tomorrow I'm going to show you a simple way to make these super cute leg warmers for your little angels.

Get To Know Me Why Don't Ya

Well, here is to my very first blog post as The Canny Crafter! I'm really excited to begin this journey and am looking forward to nothing but a passion for creativity and doing what I love... being a mom while trying to juggle all the crazy curve balls life throws us and the quite often nap time crafts I've begun to love so much.

can·ny

[kan-ee] adjective, -ni·er, -ni·est, adverb

–adjective
1.  thrifty: a canny housewife.
2. skilled
Scot.
a. safe to deal with, invest in, or work at
b. gentle; careful; steady.
c. snug; cozy; comfortable.
d. pleasing; attractive.

I'll tell you a little about myself today and starting tomorrow we'll dive head first into
"Life, mommyland and crafts {During nap time at least}"

My name is Kristen but my closest of close call me Kris. I am one person who labels herself as many things... a wife, mom, student, crafter, and entrepreneur. We'll touch on all of those things a little later on but I can't close this up without telling you about my little princess Skyla Makayle. She's your normal one and a half year old. She  has a love for Cheez-It's, cranberry juice, singing toys, dances to even the slowest of tunes and is into EVERYTHING. My hubs (you'll meet later), is extremely supportive of all of my endeavors but wishes I would move my crafts off of the kitchen table and other than my occasional over spending at my favorite craft store, Hobby Lobby, we are happily married and are the love to hate them and love to love them couple.

So, here we begin this journey. I hope you will stick around for the 3 C's{Cleverly Crafty Craziness}, a few rants about life and lots of Smiles....
